On July 4, the launching ceremony of Dongfeng Amperex (Wuhan) Battery System Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Dongfeng Amperex") was held in Dongfeng New Energy Automobile Industrial Park, symbolizing another important step of DFM on the way to take the commanding height of new energy vehicles, control the core competitiveness of new energy batteries and promote the industrial scale of core resources of new energy. At the ceremony, Dongfeng Amperex was officially launched to operation along with its new office building. It is reported that the Dongfeng Amperex plant in Dongfeng New Energy Automobile Industrial Park has been completed and put into production.

It is learned that Dongfeng Amperex is a joint venture between Dongfeng Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) founded in April 2018 dedicated to the R&D, production and sale of batteries for new energy vehicles. The launch of Dongfeng Amperex is an important step for DFM to realize the planning for new energy vehicles in the 13th Five-Year Plan period and accelerate the industrialization of the core resources of new energy vehicles as well as an effective step of Dongfeng Electric Vehicles Co., Ltd. to promote the layout optimization, strategically develop new businesses, take the initiative to control core resources of new energy vehicles, practice the innovation of energy vehicle business models and promote the high-quality development of Dongfeng’s in new energy industry.

It is also learned that CATL is the world's leading supplier of battery systems. On December 23, 2016, DFM and CATL formally signed a strategic framework agreement. During the cooperation in terms of new-energy passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles in the past two years, both parties have successively launched such products as DFM E70, DFM 3.5T electric sanitation vehicles, 4.5T electric logistics vehicles and hydrogen-fueled vehicles, etc.
